How many wedding invitations should you order?
One of the most crucial questions asked when compiling your wedding guestlist and starting to think about your wedding stationery is: “how many invitations and save the dates will I need for my special day?”
There are often a few misconceptions that couples make when deciding how many they need, and this can often mean too many or not enough invitations. Read on, and you and your partner will be able to decide exactly how many invitations you will need.
Things to keep in mind
1. Number of guests is not equal to number of invitations
Remember it is one invitation per household:
Married couples – 1 invitation
Families – 1 Invitation
Single Friends – 1 Invitation
Remember to have invitations for your wedding party.
A general rule is you’ll need 60% of the total number in guests for number of invites
2. Make sure you always have extras
I recommend ordering an extra 10% as spares: this covers last minute additions, invitations that need to be resent and keepsake invitations
Extras can also be used by your wedding photographer to take pictures of the gorgeous little details on your wedding day
You can always reorder additional invitations, however it is easier and cheaper to get all your invitations in one order, particularly if you are ordering letterpress or hot foil invitations where there are setup costs involved
If you follow these tips, you’ll know how many invitations you need to order. If you’re still uncertain, remember to ask your invitation designer as they will be able to advise you.
