Editorial: Magic in Monochrome

Eternally classy and classic, a black and white wedding theme will never date. I am delighted to share this shoot at Hertfordshire wedding venue, Ashridge House. This gorgeous wedding venue is steeped in history and was once a royal residence for both King Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. These days it hosts many a stunning wedding, with couples charmed by its magnificent staircase and stunning grounds.

Organised by Fine Art Photographer, Camilla J Hards and Stylist, Alice Wilkes, this editorial is an exercise in elegance and class. My romantic modern calligraphy waltzes its way throughout, entwining itself into hand embroidered table runners, menus, beautiful bespoke wedding invitations, classy cakes and biscuits and even magnificent balloons! And what is a wedding without incredible statement flowers, as seen here from the inimitable Amie Bone? A magnificent floral arch sets the scene for a romantic ceremony in Ashridge’s beautiful onsite chapel, and an intimate reception takes on extra wow with a floral cloud of tulle, gypsophila and white anthuriums.

Cakes were provided by the supremely talented Nina Y K of luxury wedding cake company, Meadowsweet Cakes. The most elegant of dessert tables, featuring three showstopper cakes and a selection of hand-decorated biscuits and other sweet treats. Nina and I collaborated as I created a piece of calligraphy for her (eagle eyed readers will recognise it as this gorgeous snippet from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin) which she printed on edible paper (edible calligraphy!) and used on the cake and biscuit designs

Textile designer, Claire Goodwin created this showshopper table runner, lovingly embroidered by hand and featuring playful calligraphy by me:

The ceremony took place in Ashridge’s on-site Chapel, inspiration drawn from a showstopper deconstructed arch installation by Amie Bone, representing the couple being ‘one’. Vows were also elegantly debossed in white with black ink detailing, forming a whole circle when put together.
