Modern Elegance at Raffles London
A Monique Lhuillier Editorial
Some places simply hold space differently.
Raffles London at The OWO – once the former War Office and now a masterpiece of restoration – is one of them.
Steeped in British history and redesigned with global glamour in mind, the hotel provided the perfect canvas for this editorial – a landmark moment for both Raffles and Monique Lhuillier, marking the launch of Lhuillier’s London boutique and the hotel’s first-ever bridal shoot. Curated by Melinda of Luxus Events, and beautifully captured by @maddy.christina.photo, this editorial explored the intersection of history, fashion, and elevated celebration.
It was a joy to contribute bespoke day-of stationery for the shoot – pieces designed to honour the scale and setting of each space, while allowing materials and craftsmanship to speak quietly, but with presence.
In the palatial Whitehall Ballroom, I created die-cut menus in a sculptural oval shape, finished in embossed detail and gold foil calligraphy, with individual wax-sealed place cards adding richness and depth to the tablescape. The result? A suite that mirrored the architecture: grand yet refined.
In the Churchill Suite, I paired softly deckled handmade paper with embossed monograms and fluid calligraphy, creating a look that felt textural, intimate and quietly luxurious – perfectly at home in a space rich with character and heritage.
And in the romantic light of the Turret Suite, I designed a simple pair of hand-lettered menus with delicate torn edges – a whisper of elegance to match the mood of this elopement-inspired setting.
Throughout the shoot, the details were extraordinary:
A 2-metre statement cake by @byyevnig echoing the sweep and scale of the ballroom
Wild, abundant florals by @bloominghaus softening stone archways and spilling across tables like a painting
Luxurious layered tablescapes, sculptural silhouettes, and Monique Lhuillier gowns that moved like poetry through the light
Every element of this shoot was rooted in craft, curation, and contrast – the old and the new, the grand and the delicate, the heritage and the modern bride. As a stationer, I couldn’t have asked for a more inspiring brief.
